Ryder News for Dec. 29, 2016

Delores Alg says, “Love hearing the news from Ryder, Sue, you're doing a great job, really appreciate the effort you put in to share the news. Also appreciate the effort your little "elf", Faye Karna, puts in. I miss my friends there and want to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from Jeff, Kevin and myself!”

L-R: Visiting at Barb Bofenkamp’s in Mesa, Arizona were Roy Shuler, Stewart Bofenkamp, Vicki Bofenkamp, and Barb Bofenkamp in the front.

Stewart Bofenkamp says, “Hi Sue. Merry Christmas to Kenny and you and family. Look forward to your weekly Ryder news. Thank you for continuing to do this. The picture I’ve included was taken December 11 down in Mesa, AZ while my wife Vicki and I were down visiting. The people in picture are myself, Stewart Bofenkamp (1970 class of North Shore), my wife Vicki "Tollefson" Bofenkamp (1969 class of Makoti High), my mom Barbara "Shuler" Bofenkamp (1947 class of Makoti High) and my uncle and Barb's brother Roy Shuler (1945 class of Makoti High)”

Claudette Brandt helped Jill celebrate her birthday on the 14th of Dec. Jill told her mom she had a surprise for her but it wouldn't be ready til 4 p.m.! At 4 p.m. they went to the airport and met Jan Stordahl from Minnesota then went to the Badlands restaurant for supper and were met by Penny and Steven McCormack. Jan told Claudette she had another surprise for her. Back to the airport they went where they met Dean Brandt from Enid, Oklahoma. They came home to Ryder and on Friday they entertained DeWayne Brandt and Amy; Jesse and Emily Berg; and Katie Brandt and friend Scott; and Daryl, Doreen and boys from Kindred. Jan and Dean went back on Sunday. Their flight was suppose to leave at 1 p.m and didn’t leave until 7 p.m. 6 hours late. This made Dean Brandt miss his connecting flight to Oklahoma.

I hope everyone had an enjoyable Christmas Eve. We sure did! John, Staci and Johnny came out to go to church and spend the evening. Rick and Levi stopped over to wish us a Merry Christmas.
Our church service was at 4 this year and there were not many in attendance. There were later services in the area.

We had a great time opening gifts and then playing Atari. I found Staci’s Atari Flashback game console that we had given her years ago and it had barely been opened. So being the clever mother that I am, I wrapped it up and re-gifted it to her. She was so excited until she realized that it was the one we had gotten her years ago. Oh well, we all enjoyed competing with each other on it.

Sunday, Christmas Day we awakened to a blizzard and today it is still going on. I had to shovel the sliding door from the inside out so the dogs could get out to do their business. That was fun as a lot of snow managed to get inside too. We have huge drifts all over the place and right in front of the garage door again which would require someone to crawl over or through the drift to get the door open to get the bobcat out! Hopefully by the time you read this, someone has to come to plow our driveway out so Kenny could get to dialysis on Tuesday. Hope the storm is done by then also. Kenny said he saw someone at 5 a.m. Sunday come from Ryder and head down the highway going awfully slow. He thought it was someone headed to work. Wonder if he made it or if he turned around! There was a no travel advised warning and several major roadways are closed.
