Ryder News for Jan. 14, 2021

Last week’s news got lost in the paper’s newsroom, so it didn't make it into the paper. It was, however, posted online and can be viewed at the following link: https://suesnewsryder.blogspot.com/2021/01/ryder-news-jan-7-2021.html.

Pastor Starks holding the picture of him preaching in a snowstorm last Easter Sunday.

Pastor Starks said, “40 Sundays ago today we began this journey of outdoor services. It started on a Easter Sunday I will never forget! Preaching outside in a snow storm to the community that I love will always be highlight of my ministry here in North Dakota.

I was surprised this morning with a wonderful gift that captures that special sermon in photo. Thank you Nicole Johansen for this  precious gift!

13 weeks now we have been ministering from the deer stand. I praise God for what he is doing in our hearts to prepare us for his outpouring to come!”

Shelsey Brandvold

Congratulations goes out to Shelsey Brandvold, daughter of Lee and Julie Brandvold.  She was one of the Max FFA members being awarded $1,000 SAE Grants through the ND FFA Foundation.  Shelsey is working on Beef Entrepreneurship.  She started a cow/calf operation in 2020 and hopes to find another heifer to add to her herd this spring.

The Ryder-Makoti communities lost another of its people that was full of local history. Paul Wacek, 99, died on January 1, 2021 at the Benedictine Living Community of Garrison. He would definitely have had some clever comment about the date of his death.  He loved to visit and recall and provided lots of local history.  Because he lived northwest of Ryder, he knew every name associated with the older members of Ryder and Makoti, where they lived in the townships, and how many kids they had.  Around 2005 he stated that he had several "old" atlases and books he wanted to donate to the Ryder museum when he got "older." He spent some of those older days living in Makoti before moving to Turtle Lake with his caregiver. He was so sad after one of the last trips out to his previous farm home as someone had vandalized it. He missed his only brother, Zar, but, they are now together again at the St. Mary's Cemetery, rural Fairfield.

Ryder News Jan 7, 2021

Ryder News for Jan 7, 2021

I had a little experience with going to the ER on News Year Day. I decided to go in because of the swelling in my hands, arms, legs, feet and ankles. After the  initial blood work, I was asked if I knew that I’d had a heart attack!! “What!!” Guess it was a silent one and right now am on some heart medication. They never did manage to get any of the swelling to go down and I’m thinking the swelling may be due to the neuropathy that I got when I had radiation a year or so ago on my lymph glands. Anyway I came home on Sunday. Rick spent the nights here at my house and took care of my dog and cat and then he spent my first night at home with me too. Staci and John are the ones who took me to the hospital and brought me home. Sure is good to have a caring family!
