Ryder News Oct 31, 2019

Ryder News for Oct. 31, 2019

I just received word that Richard Larson, 79, of Minot, formerly of Ryder passed away on Sunday, Oct. 27th in a Minot health care center. My deepest sympathy goes out to his family and friends.

Happy Halloween... Watch out for those little ghouls and goblins that will be running around the neighborhood tonight. I bought lots of candy so just hope I don’t have it all eaten before the kids get here!!

Oct. 31st is the Halloween Party in Makoti and please take note...the party place has been changed to the Makoti School Gymnasium. All preschool through 6th grade are invited to have fun and win prizes from 6 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. There will be free beverages and treats for all!!

Ryder Water Tower

“WOW!” “That’s a long way up,'' said Peggy Reinisch. Josh Reinisch and two fellows from Team Electronics went up 125’ to replace the Fire Departments Repeater Antenna that was damaged by a wind storm. Thanks Guys!!!
That just shows how observant I am, I never even noticed that were ever any antennas up there.

Ron and Muriel Peterson went to La Moure to watch their grandson, Tate Mart’s last football game of the year but it got rained out. Muriel said, “They have so much water down there that most of their crops are still standing.”

Rondi and Steve Deaver and boys have been vacationing in Phoenix, Arizona. Ron and Muriel Peterson went to the airport in Bismarck to meet them and bring them back home. While waiting for the plane, they visited with Marlene Streeper and then later they all enjoyed eating supper at a local restaurant. And...now it’s basketball time. Ron and Muriel spent Sunday in Minot cheering for Carson Deaver’s team.

Well, the cold weather is here and the forecasters are saying that we probably won’t have anymore warm weather. I guess I can stand the cold as long as we don’t get a ton of snow to have to wade through.

Upcoming Events:

Nov. 3--9 a.m. Worship Service at St. John’s Lutheran Church of Ryder.
Nov. 3--10:30 Worship Service at Hope Lutheran Church of Makoti with communion.

Ryder News Oct 24, 2019

Ryder News for Oct. 24, 2019

It looks like we lucked out and didn’t get the rain that was forecast for the weekend into Monday of this week. We sure don’t need any more rain with the farmers finally able to get back into some of their fields and try to do some combining. I think there are going to be a lot of crop and hail insurance claims this year!

Shirley Cunningham
Shirley Virginia Cunningham, 75, formerly of Ryder passed away on Oct. 13, 2019 in Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her husband Larry. Graveside services will be held at a later date at Rosehill Cemetery, Ryder, ND. My sympathy goes out to her family and friends.

Donna Haugen, 88, Minot and formerly of Ryder and Roseglen died on Tuesday, October 15, 2019 in a Minot hospital with her loving family at her side. Her Celebration of the Life was Saturday, October 19, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. in Christ Lutheran Church of Minot with burial in Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot. My sympathy to her family and friends.

Make and Take Crafters and their projects.

A Make and Take Craft Project with Delrae Wohlk, hosted by Mary Simmons and Stephanie Hagen was held the afternoon of Sunday, October 13th in the Ryder Star Bar. Around twenty-five ladies from the Ryder, Minot, South Prairie, Makoti and Plaza areas attended. Light snacks were served and everyone had a fun time.

Rocky Acres 4-H Club members
The Rocky Acres 4-H club met on Sunday with a short meeting and the making of hedgehogs out of pumpkins/gourds. The pumpkins and gourds were grown by the Max FFA, in the community garden. The club consists of Ryder, Douglas, South Prairie and Max families. Their leader is Julie Brandvold. Youth can still join if they would like to be part of a fun learning organization. Contact Julie Brandvold at 701-758-2456 for more information.

John, Staci and Johnny McGrath came out to visit on Saturday and also get their camper winterized and moved.

Remember that there will be no annual bazaar at the turkey drawing this year at the Ryder Community Center, instead it will be a Family Day with crafts for the kids and visiting for adults with the turkey drawing at 3 p.m. on Nov. 16th. But...there will be a mini-bazaar at the Senior Citizens in Ryder from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. also on Nov. 16th.

Well, it looks like this is the end of the news for this week. Have a great week and get your news to me if you want to be famous!!

Ryder News Oct 17, 2019

Ryder News for Oct. 17, 2019

It seems that a few people did know the answer to our Mystery Photo. It was Alice Kotaska. This little lady is over 100 years old and still going strong...She even attended a Minnesota Twins game last year. The ones having correct guesses were: Shirley Bezanson, Stephanie Hagen and Betty Mahoney.

Wow, the Calvary Presbyterian church in Ryder was full for LeRoy Peterson’s funeral last week. It was a very nice service with wonderful music and eulogy. LeRoy’s burial will be in the ND Veteran’s Cemetery in Mandan, ND.

We are all slowly getting dug out from the snowstorm of last week. Ryder didn’t have as much as some places and most of it around my place is melting. Now we are all hoping and praying that the winter weather will hold off until next Spring!!

I mentioned last week that the Ryder Community Club will not be having their bazaar as in years past but instead will be having a Family Day with crafts for the kids and visiting for the adults and the regular Turkey Drawing. But don’t despair, there are plans in the works to have a Mini-Bazaar at the Senior Citizens the same day!

I really don’t have much news this week as no one has contacted me with any!

Upcoming Events:

Ryder News for Oct. 10, 2017

Mystery photo
Yahoo, we have a new Mystery Photo for this week!! This lady and her husband and 2 daughters lived in Ryder in the early 60's. She is now over 100 years old and resides in Bismarck. Good luck with your guesses and let me know who you think she might be. Send your answers to me at sbradley@restel.com or text/call me at 701-720-4297.

Happy Heavenly Birthday to my hubby, Kenny Bradley. He would have been 76 years old today!

I bet everyone is glad they didn’t put their boats and arks away since we have had more rain again. My rain gauge showed .60 for this last shower. I see ditches full of water and bales standing in water. Ugh. My yard is ready to float away!! And...now they are talking more cold weather and snow. I’d like time to clean up my yard, mow and put things away if it would only warm up so I could!

Carol Jean (Anderson) Hansen passed away at Benedictine Living Center in Garrison on Wednesday Oct. 2, 2019. My sympathy to her family and friends. Her memorial service was Monday, Oct. 7, 2019 in Cornerstone Presbyterian Church in Minot, ND and burial was at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot, ND.

I just received word that LeRoy Peterson of Ryder passed away Sunday, Oct. 6th in a Bismarck hospital. My deepest sympathy goes out to his family and friends.

Many connected to the Ryder and Rose Valley areas attended the wedding of Wyatt Hansen and Sarah Gessner on Saturday, Oct.5th in Minot. Wyatt is the son of Kevin Hansen and grandson of Marcy and Kermit Hansen.

Dwight Paulson spent the weekend at the Ron and Muriel Peterson farm. They attended the Hostfest one day and went to the Makoti Threshing Show on Saturday. Rodger Haugen and Dan also visited them on Saturday.

Last Sunday dinner guests at the Ron Petersons was their daughter Rondi Deaver with husband Steve and kids Carson and Cole.

Just to give everyone a heads up, there will be no bazaar at the Ryder Community Gym this year. Instead it will be a family day with crafts for the kids and visiting for the adults and then of course the turkey drawing. More information as it becomes available.

Old time school bus similar to the one my grandfather Ernest Baldwin drove.
