Ryder News Sep 26, 2019

Ryder News for Sept. 26, 2019

Lots more rain from Friday through Saturday last week as my rain gauge showed a total of 2.80 inches. This makes for a whole lot of rain in the past few weeks, probably around 5 inches or more all total. Sure does green up the grass which means that I have to mow again. I think I’ve mowed more the month of September than I did all summer!! Speaking of summer, what happened to it...did we have one?

Side by Sides line Ryder’s Main Street.
There was a Side-by-Side fun run on Saturday and Ryder’s Main Street was lined with these machines. It was a good thing they all had tops and sides on them as the one lady I visited with said it was cold, wet and muddy! They rode from Benedict, Douglas, Ryder and then back to Benedict.

Kathy and Dave Kimball spent last week with their son Carl, Crystal and 3 kids Matayah, Avery and Ean Cree at Great Wolf Lodge in Minnesota. They thoroughly enjoyed the water park and so many other things they had for the kids along with many trips to the Mall of America. They had a great time and spent lots of money!!

Looks like this is all the news I can scrape up for this week. Remember, I need your news if this column is going to continue.

Ryder News for Sept. 19, 2019

Good Morning everyone...Let’s celebrate! It finally stopped raining and the temps are on the rise. It will be in the 90’s here today, Monday. The 2-day total last week for Wednesday and Thursday showed 2.80 in my rain gauge and judging from all the water in the ditches and low spots plus the damp floor in my basement, I’d say that my rain gauge had pretty much the right total. I’m sure there were others that had less and probably lots more that had bigger totals!
Of course, with all the added moisture, the grass is really growing and it’s time for me to get out the mowers and get some of my yards mowed. The rain has really hurt the crops tho, as I heard there is some sprouting in the heads due to the rain.

Roger Haugen, 78, rural Des Lacs passed away on Thursday, September 5, 2019 in a Minot nursing home from complications related to Alzheimer’s Disease. He was surrounded by his loving family when he passed.

Harlan, Fern and Andrea Skarphol along with Andrea’s friend Colton went to a family reunion at Harlan’s cousin Robert’s farm at McGregor. Andrea brought and rode two of her horses and Harlan’s nephew, Mark brought his big Clydesdale horses that he purchased in Iowa from the Amish. He took all the relatives on a ride in the pasture of Harlan’s old farmstead using his homemade wagon. Everyone brought potluck and Fern says it was delicious!

Faye Karna of Bismarck spent Thursday and Friday at the Ron Peterson home. On Thursday, the ladies went to Trinity Nursing Home in Minot to spend time visiting with Kay Haugen and family as Roger was a patient there. Friday they returned to Minot to visit with Marvel and Jim Bakken. They also briefly visited with Roxann (Olson) Klein.

The Community Food Pantry along with the Ryder Community Club were able to send 3 boxes of much needed mismatched shoes to the charity Soles for Souls from their pop up store. They also donated a van full of items left from the store to men's and women's shelters in the area. And they were able to donate some supplies for the Plaza School.
Judy Kimball told Kathy about planet green ink cartridge recycling. They sent off what was left of all the ink cartridges they had in the Community Club Pop Up Store.
Kathy Kimball said it has been so much fun and humbling to work on these projects. They are also working on backpacks for kids with the Plaza school. If you have donations for that project, the food pantry will make sure they get it.

The North Shore-Plaza Music Department is having their Annual Spaghetti Supper on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2019 from 5 p.m. - 8 p.m. at the Makoti Senior Center. Adults $8.00, Students $6.00, Preschool $3.00.

***PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN***
A note from Kathy Kimball: The Ryder Community Center will be having 2 cleaning days in October, the 5th and 19th starting at 10 a.m. We need your help to do our yearly deep clean before the holidays!!
For more information, contact Kathy at 578-5876.

Ryder News Sep 5, 2019

Ryder News for Sept. 5, 2019

Well, the old saying is “No News is Good News” but not in this case! I don’t have any news for this week except for what I’ve been doing.

A few storms have been rolling through the area and my rain gauge showed .20 for Labor Day morning and in the afternoon, the old rain gauge showed another inch. All total we got 1.20 of rain plus a whole lot of wind (200 mph at least, or at least it felt like it) and some pea size hail.  It sounded like Minot is getting more rain than we are but nevertheless, it is enough to stop combining for the day.

I went to Minot on Thursday for a Dr. appointment and also buy a few groceries then on Friday I went along with Muriel Peterson to Garrison so she could run some errands. I also talked my brother and nephew into taking me into Minot with them on Saturday so I could purchase a water heater since mine had sprung a leak along the top. It seems that I’m never home and all I do is spend money. Now I have to spend more money to get the darn thing installed!
Well, that’s it...all the news such as it is for this week.

Sept. 6--7 p.m. Bingo at the Ryder Community Center.
