Ryder
News for April 28, 2016
We had rain all day and
most of the night beginning Sunday morning with rain, thunder, lightning and
hail and lots of wind! According to our rain gauge Monday morning we received 1.20
but judging from the puddles out there…I think the wind kept a lot of it from
going into the gauge!
The American Legion
Auxiliary in Makoti has awarded a full scholarship to International Music Camp
to Daniel Starks. He plans to go this summer for a week of intensive study. Congratulations
to Daniel.
Were there any other
local people who ran this year’s Boston Marathon? Lynae Hanson Lardy ran and
finished it for her second time which is quite an accomplishment. Lynae is the
daughter of Marcy and Kermit Hanson and lives at Fargo.
Memorial Day and
services will soon be here. More Veterans’ pictures have been added to the binder
at the Ryder Museum. These are usually displayed that day; so, it would be
great to get more of our local vets pictures added before then.
Obituaries are
continuously added to the Ryder Historical Society’s binders. A former Ryder
resident, Marlys Nelson Rodahl, just sent an interesting one on Sister
DeLourdes. She was the former Leona Magyar. She was born in Jackson, MN in 1905
and moved with her family to Ryder in 1916. From there the family moved to
Minot in 1922. The Magyar name was an early Ryder name. Do any of you readers
recall any facts about the family? If so you can contact Faye Karna at 701-758-2527
or email at fkarna@restel.net with the information.
DelRay and Terry
Johanson were out to Montana for a Knutson wedding over the week-end.
More information has
been submitted about the Kotaska family. See if any of it helps you to recall
more. Their daughter, Darlene, was in the class of 1967; but, they moved before
then. Their older daughter, Deloris, graduated from the 8th grade while at
Ryder and was 2 years older than Darlene. So wouldn’t that have put Deloris in
the class of 1961? It is recalled that their dad’s name was possibly
Elmer. Do any of you recall an Elmer
Kotaska? Any information would be appreciated and once again you may contact
Faye Karna at 701-758-2527 or email at fkarna@restel.net.
Leifson ladies…L-R: Lois Leifson Kramer, Kathy Leifson, Lois’s daughter (no name given). Front: Ella Leifson |
I’ve included a recent
picture of 3 gals that used to live north of Ryder.
They are Lois Leifson
Kramer standing beside her younger sister, Kathy Leifson, while their mom, Ella
Leifson, is seated in front. The gal to the farthest right is Lois’s daughter,
who, of course, never lived in ND. They were members of the Ella and Bob
Leifson family and their other siblings were Beverly and Gary. Kathy and Gary
would have been members of the 1964 class, while Beverly would have been with
the 1969 class. Kathy did not attend Ryder High as the family moved, and it is
not known where she lives at this writing. Lois lives in CA while Beverly and
Gary live in the state of WA.
Bud and Faye Karna were
busy with Kyann’s 3 children this past week-end.
Kyann had to work on
Saturday and the kids didn’t have school on Friday; so, they decided a “stay at
the farm” was appropriate as they had not been up here for “at least” 5 months
they told Gramps and Grandma!
