Ryder News for May 14, 2020

Due to this Covid-19 Pandemic, the Memorial Day Service in Ryder has been canceled but the Legion will be putting flags on the graves.
The Makoti Memorial Day Service is also canceled but the Legion will be putting crosses in their park.

Masks made by Stephanie Hagen.

Stephanie Hagen of Ryder started sewing face masks on March 9th and just made the 300th mask. She's mailed masks to California, Nevada and Montana. She has sewn masks for her family, friends and businesses. She states it makes her think of Rosie the Riveter during WWII, women taking up the need.

A typical North Dakota weekend...drink lattes all night on Friday, shovel snow on Saturday, and mow the yard on Sunday.

My rain gauge showed .20 Friday night into Saturday, plus snow and wind all day on Saturday. It was not a real fun day on Saturday!

I hope everyone had a good Mother’s day while practicing social distancing. It’s not a whole lot of fun if you had to distance yourself from your family. Rick and Levi brought me a card. He also brought me a rose from Calvary Church and later brought me a steak supper. Staci said she’d see me at a later date.

Calvary Church Parking Lot Drive In Service was on Mother’s Day and it was the 4th one they have had. Pastor Starks said the weather was the warmest they have had so far! There were  33 cars and around 90 worshippers in attendance.
Worshippers were able to sing “behind their windshields” to the songs during the service by going to the Calvary Church Ryder Facebook page on their cell phones, search  for the date of the service and a list of the songs that would be sung.

Pastor Starks said, “This morning at Calvary Church was a day of celebration, starting with our gratefulness for the women who have so impacted our lives, by sharing stories and memories of how our lives have been forever changed! We also recognized our high school graduate, Morgan Johansen and our confirmation class, Morgan and Emily Johansen, as they reach these new milestones in their lives.
We ended our service by giving roses to those who attended our service, and then we traveled around the area delivering roses to ladies in the community, and also Garrison assisted living.
It was another beautiful drive in service and I invite you to join us again this next week as we continue our parking lot services through this month of May."

Ryder community high school graduates are: Morgan Johansen, son of Jamie and Nikki Zablotney-Johansen, grandson of Terry and Delray Johansen and  Ed and Bernadyne Zablotney.
Lanie Wohlk, daughter of Nathan Wohlk and DelRae Wohlk, granddaughter of Lydell and Wendy Ike-Wohlk.

Max Graduation is Saturday, May 23rd at 2:00 p.m. They will be having a "Drive Through" Graduation ceremony for graduates and their immediate family followed by a parade where extended family, friends and community members can celebrate the Class of 2020. Watch the parade on the frontage road, in front of the elevator, in front of the park or the end of Main Street. Each Graduate has a time frame for graduation. Morgan Johansen is at 2:15 p.m. and Lanie Wohlk is at 2:50 p.m.  Congratulations to all our graduates.

Our Community Food Pantry has been chosen as recipient of a grant from the Minot area community foundation! This will help in their efforts to keep meals on our tables!!
Please contact Kathy at 701-578-5876, if you or someone you know is in need or if you need something and can't find it shopping right now. No, they have no yeast, but if you have extra, they will gladly take it!
Confidentiality is number one in our pantry, so please let them help you. They will deliver, if you can't come to pick up.

My biggest fear is getting a murder hornet stuck in my face mask while shoveling snow on a Saturday in mid May!
