Danny Hoffer in the Rusty Wallace Race Experience.

Danny Hoffer had a great birthday gift and he had this to say, “For my birthday, my wife Ellen and my niece Kris Butterfield gave me the Rusty Wallace Race Experience. I got to go to the Stockton 99 Speedway and drive a modified series race car. The crew was very professional, you were allowed to go as fast or slow as you felt comfortable going and allowed to still have a lot of fun. Safety was definitely the number one priority but they did not take the thrill out of racing. If you ever get the opportunity to do this I would highly recommend it. It is definitely a thrill!!!”

Memories Of My Childhood In Blue Hill by Myrtle Mathieson Thue from Howard, SD. This was written in Aug. 1969.

Today I have been paging through an old Record Book, sent to me recently by a dear friend. It was found among the personal effects of the late H. C. Albert and records much of the social and political activities of the Blue Hill McLean County, North Dakota area of an earlier day.
Since those were the years of my childhood and youth in this place, a host of memories came to my mind as I scanned the pages, tabulating names and occasions.
Do you know how Blue Hill got its name? When the local “Dads” met to organize the township a name had to be decided upon. A young man, who had a small store and post office on his homestead, on the farm now owned by Henry Hansen, urged that it be called “Oscar “ for him. There were those who protested, saying “Chris Linnertz was the first settler in the area, having been a rancher before the homesteaders came in. Let us call it Linnertz township.”
Mr. Linnertz was a wise old man. I can imagine the twinkle in his eyes, as pointing to the southeast, he said, “Those old blue hills were here before Linnertz. Call it Blue Hill township.” And so it is.

More of her story to come next week!
