Ryder News for June 29, 2017
It has been so cold and windy this weekend
that we couldn’t even get any camping in and I just love going camping and
resting, reading and watching tv while everyone else is in the boat fishing.
I found out on Wednesday that I have
shingles and I itch. No nerve pain (knock on wood) but sure itches. I also
heard that getting shingles is sometimes a result of chemo. Great...wonder how
many more times I will get them!
Phyllis Jean Mueller, 86, Minot passed away
Monday, June 19, 2017 in the care of Trinity Homes. Phyllis was born August 11,
1930 to William and Emma (Erb) Sorenson in Roseglen, ND. She was joined in
marriage to Donald Mueller. She is
survived by sons Keven, Kirby and Darik, eight grandchildren and 11 great
grandchildren.
Our deepest sympathy goes out to family and
friends.
Lois Rustad, 82, Bismarck, formerly of Roseglen,
passed away on Thursday, June 8, 2017 at her home. Lois was born to Melvin and
Helen (Timm) Bjornholt. She married Robert Rustad in 1953 and raised 2
children. She is survived by son, Ronald (Jackie) Rustad; daughter, Bonnie
(Jerry) Lorenz; 6 grandchildren; 1 great grandson and 1 brother.
Our deepest sympathy goes out to family and
friends.

Ryder High School Class of 1967 held a fun
and entertaining 50-year class reunion at the Ryder Senior Center on June 17,
2017. Eleven class members attended the reunion along with seven spouses and
guests. Attendees enjoyed touring Ryder Historical Museum hosted by director
Faye Karna. David and Kathy Kimball of Ryder catered the reunion feast enjoyed
later. Class member Sharon Kellett created beautiful centerpieces to decorate
banquet tables. Reunion events included reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, an
opening prayer by class member Larry Johansen, and a moment of silence for five
deceased class members (Dennis Haugen, Dennis Johansen, Randy Morris, Khylene (Mueller)
Patera and Elliott Nelson). After eating, class members looked at memorabilia
and old photos concluding an afternoon and evening of reminiscing, stories and
laughter. Susan Mahoney presented Vietnam War Commemorative lapel pins to Lee
Cunningham and Terry Johansen who served during the Vietnam Era 1955-1975.
Susan conducted a similar ceremony in Ryder during the annual Memorial Day
ceremony held by L. C. Jensen Post 99 of The American Legion. Classmates
congratulated Shirley and Max Bezanson on the occasion of their 50th wedding
anniversary celebrated a day later on June 18th. RHS Class of 1967 appreciates
everyone who contributed to a successful and memorable 50-year reunion. Class
motto: "The past forever gone, the future still our own."

Faye Karna says, “It was fun having these
two gals in the Ryder museums at the same time. Roseanne Cunningham and Phyllis
Simmons are full of past history and attended Ryder High. Roseanne moved after
her junior year; but Phyllis graduated from Ryder. It was so fun visiting with
them. Wished they both lived here as they would be such assets.”

Ryder’s Rosehill Cemetery

The
Ryder Cemetery has had an update. I wanted to share a picture with you former
Ryder folks. Notice how the evergreens have been trimmed and a new fence added.
Surely was needed and deeply appreciated. It looks so nice when you come
driving into Ryder on #28 from the north!
Don
Haugen was the man responsible for all the updates to our Ryder Rosehill
Cemetery and he spent many thousands of dollars to make it look as nice as it
does. He built the new fence, put up a building on the east end to house two
new lawn mowers and has hired a lady out of Minot to come out and mow and cut
cemetery twice a month for $300. He also had the road graded and fixed up. So
if anyone wants to donate to help pay for the mowing and upkeep on the cemetery
you may send to St. John’s Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 57, Ryder, ND 58779 or
Calvary Church, P.O. Box 58, Ryder, ND 58779. The Ryder community appreciates
very much Don, the work that you have done on our cemetery!

Pioneer Family: One of the pioneer families of Blue Hill area is the Folden family. Ole Folden being head of the family now living in Blue Hill. Ole is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Folden. Paul has passed away and Mrs. Folden now lives in Ryder. Ole was born and raised in Blue Hill Township and married Selma Troite of rural Ryder. They have three children: Ardell, Dennis and Diana, who are twins. The Foldens bought the Lo Robbins farm and are improving it to a fine farm home. They have a good herd of Aberdeen Angus cattle and Ole has several quarters of land in wheat and other small grains. The Paul Foldens were among the earlier pioneers of Blue Hill and built up one of the finest farms in the community. The Paul Folden’s other children besides Ole are Mrs. Joe (Jennie) Linnertz of Williston and Mrs. Dan (Asta) Phillippi of Van Hook.Jimmy Daleness and Sharon Kraft have been suffering with the measles.Gilbert Johnson's visited Harry Henzlers at Big Bend Sunday.Mr. and Mrs. Nick Linnertz and Gene transacted business at Washburn Monday.Sunday visitors at Nick Linnertz’s were Mrs. Ed Olson and Mamie and Ms. John Linnertz and children.Mr. and Mrs. Joe Plaisance and family and Cora Plaisance of Minot and Harry Plaisance of Douglas visited the John Linnertz family Sunday.Mr. and Mrs. Ole Troite of Ryder and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Olson were Sunday visitors at Ed Olsons.Andy Reed of Nishu, who is working at the Harry Peterson ranch, is home for a few days.O.K. Hopkins and Vern Bloom went to Ryder Monday evening to attend a board meeting of the Land O’Lakes Creamery of which they are directors.Mr. and Mrs. Orrin Johnson and family are living on their land in Blue Hill Township until they get their crop in.Mr. and Mrs. O.K. Hopkins attended graduation at Garrison. Their youngest son, Wayne, graduated.Mr. and Mrs. Art Lee and Henry Rime of Emmet called at Ed Olson's Saturday.Mrs. John C. Hansen, Mrs. Ida Osmon, and Mrs. Feidler called on Mrs. Anna Jackson Tuesday.Mrs. Clifford Daleness attended homemakers club at the Lloyd Peterson home Thursday afternoon.Mr. and Mrs. Carl Olson are enjoying a visit with her brother and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Jess Baxter, who are touring from California to Minneapolis. Baxters have been living in California two years just sightseeing and now are on their way back to the Twin Cities.Henry Albert recently purchased a new John Deere tractor. Mr. Albert does not farm his own land but due to the late spring, Robert Albert with his hired man made good use of the tractor to hurry in the seeding.Gene Officer, electrician and Hot Point dealer out of Ryder, installed a hot water heater at the Clifford Daleness home and a new electric stove at the Henry Hansen home the past week.Mr. and Mrs. Bill Witt and Rubie Witt toured the Dam Site at Riverdale Monday afternoon.Mr. and Mrs. George Linnertz and Susan arrived on Wednesday from Washington. The Linnertz family has resided in Washington a year and a half and now plans to remain in ND.
