Ryder News Mar. 2, 2017

Ryder News for March 2, 2017

Well, I will be having 15 radiation treatments over a period of 3 weeks starting on this Tuesday. Kenny said he hates to think about driving to Minot 5 days a week! I’ll just be glad when it’s over!

It seems like this is the week for old time birthday pictures.

Nancy Larson birthday picture: Left to Right: Joleen (Johansen) Satrang, Nancy Larson, Laura Matz, Betty (Hagen) Wiley, Kathy (Kronbach) Kallestad, Nancy (Peterson) Schuelke, Kathy Hanson, and Susan Hair.

The first picture is from Kathy (Kronbach) Kallestad and was 50 years old on February 13, 2017.  "Happy Birthday classmate and friend, Nancy Larson! This picture is from your birthday party on February 13, 1967."

Phyllis Dobrinski Anderson birthday picture: Left to Right: Danny Beyer, Rodger Haugen, Tom Beyer, Jim Beyer, Russ and Marlene Sortland (cousins from Crosby) and Phyllis (Dobrinski) Anderson.

Phyllis Anderson is the next one to have been blessed with a birthday photo! Here’s a photo from her 8th birthday in 1951.
Mom always made the lamb cake from cast iron mold for our birthdays. I still use the mold for my grands and great-grands.

Konner Beeter grandson of Donna Beeter pinned Kaden Jaeger in 2 minutes and 22 seconds to secure the Class B 152-pound state championship match.

Donna Beeter’s grandson, Bishop Ryan's, Konner Beeter wrestled Rugby's Kaden Jaeger during the Class B 152-pound match last Saturday at the Fargodome. Beeter won the title by pinning Jaeger in 2 minutes and 22 seconds to secure the Class B 152-pound state championship match.

Andrew Ternes of Devils Lake took 3rd place in the Devil Lake’s Science Fair.
Andrew Ternes, grandson of Rodger Haugen (a 1961 graduate of Ryder High), took 3rd place in the Science Fair at Devils Lake, ND.  He is 9 and in the 4th grade at St. Joseph’s School.  He would be the Gr.-Grandson of Wendell and Frances Haugen, former Ryder residents.

Isabella Albert daughter of Tyler and Sara Albert, granddaughter of Gayle Wilson Albert.

Gayle Wilson Albert has once again become Grandmother Gayle. Her younger son and wife, Tyler and Sara Albert, had a little girl on Feb. 24 in Minneapolis. They named her Isabella and she is their first child.  Gayle has 2 other granddaughters that live here at Ryder, ND and are named Raegan and Taryn Albert. Congratulations, Grandma. Gayle. Grandpa Jerome would have loved playing with these little girls. He lost his life to cancer.

Gregory and Nicholas Hammons twin sons of Melandie and Brad Deplazes and grandsons of Stephanie and Richard Hagen were both on the Lake Region State College President’s List with a grade point average of 4.0
Nicholas and Gregory Hammons, sons of Melandie and Brad Deplazes and grandsons of Stephanie and Richard Hagen, were listed on the President's List at Lake Region State College. To be on the President's list you need a 3.8 or higher grade point average. To be considered a full time student you must take 12 credits which is a normal college load. Both boys took 21 credits this past semester and both received a 4.0 grade point average for the semester. Plus they both work at least 20 hours a week at their jobs. They both were asked and were accepted into Phi Theta Kappa which is honors society. Both boys have applied and been accepted into NDSU for in the fall. In May both boys will graduate from LRSC with Nick getting his Associates of Science Degree and Greg getting his Associates of Arts Degree. We are extremely proud of these two young gentlemen and what they have accomplished. Congratulations Nick and Gregory!

The Makoti Senior Center will serve a St. Patrick's Day corned beef and cabbage supper on Thursday, March 9 at 6:00 PM. The day change is due to Wednesday services at church. All area seniors are welcome to attend. We plan a musical program with two of our local stars doing an Irish song or two for us.

This Friday, March 3 at Classic Rock Coffee, Minot, 7 p.m.-9:30 p.m., Daniel Starks is performing a tribute concert to the “Best Music of the 60's & 70's”! Classic Rock Coffee is donating 25% of every purchase during the event to the Rock The Leaves/Greater Minot Youth Concert Association whose vision is “To bring life-changing musical experiences to Central and Western ND.” Get out, enjoy the music, and support a great cause!

Some more Old Roseglen News written by Mrs. Earl Pederson:

“Albert Jorgenson auctioned off a goodly number of sausages to a number of high bidders. Raymond Giddings and Mike Weinand again had the task of parking cars this year, and special thanks should go to them for the job they did. Remember this was another cold night, and a job many wouldn’t have cared to do. The Kolden - O’Shea orchestra played for the dance.
A hearty thank you for everyone who worked so hard again to make the March of Dimes party the success it was, and may the proceeds that were collected for it aid in the fight against Polio, that its fear will be forever wiped out. To those unfortunate ones crippled and ill from this disease, may it help ease their pain and suffering and will brighten their outlook by knowing that someone cares.”
