Ryder News for Aug. 4, 2016

Plaza Ambulance Service needs EMRs and EMTs for their ambulance service. EMTs $35 and EMRs $25 (per call).
Classes starting in September at the Plaza Fire Hall. For more information please call Farren Wold at 701-331-3817 or Tari Berry at 701-497-3465.

The Ryder-Makoti Ambulance will be ceasing service on Aug. 15th unless enough volunteers are found and the service re-applies for its license. Even tho the ambulance will no longer be on call, the area will not be without service. Our district will be divided among Garrison-Max, Parshall, Plaza and Minot.

The reason for ceasing service is because ND requires all squads in the state to be available 24/7 and ours is only operating at about  95%. One problem is that it is  hard to find volunteers to be available during the day although almost everyone is available at night. If the communities of Ryder and Makoti step up, the ambulance service may have a future. There will be EMR and EMT classes every Wednesday night in Plaza starting in November and they need a class of 6-10 to have enough volunteers. You may call Jody Reinisch at 701-758-2271 for more information.

Remember the benefit supper the Community Club sponsored so new playground equipment could be purchased? Well, there have been updates made to the swings, etc. David Kimball installed new seats on the swings and did a few other things to spruce up the playground. I was going to get a picture but the storm we are having this evening (Sunday) prohibited me from doing so and I had to send news in early due to Dr. appointment on Monday. Maybe I can capture a picture and have it in next week's news.

James Johnson of Arnold, MO was wondering if any of my readers remember Brynhild Haugland (July 28, 1905 – August 9, 1998). He said, “I noticed this because she passed away on my Birthday. She always won because everyone (Dem, Rep, Ind) voted for her. My dad used to say I am a staunch Democrat, but I will always vote for Haugland. She was a North Dakota Republican Party politician who was well known for being one of the first female legislators in the North Dakota Legislative Assembly, as well as for being the longest serving state legislator in the history of the United States because of her continuous 52-year tenure in the North Dakota House of Representatives.

There will be NO soup and sandwich in August and the food pantry hours will be changing. You can check the Ryder Community Food Pantry website for more information in August or call 578-5876.

BINGO is cancelled for the month of August!
