Ryder News for Aug. 18, 2016

There will be a Breakfast Benefit for Tim Ouradnik at the Makoti Senior Center on August 28th from 8-1 to help with his medical expenses.

Johnny McGrath getting ready to combine

Johnny McGrath may be an up and coming farmer...he was really interested in my brother’s combine and of course Dick took him for a ride as well.

Updates are continuous in the Ryder museum records. A count has been made of the yearbooks from North Shore. Those that are still needed at the museum are for the years of 1976,1979, 1987, 1998, 2016. If you wish to “loan” one from those years or donate it, just contact John Warner or Faye Karna.

A new doll display has been created at the museum. It includes Barbie dolls, MINI Cabbage Patch dolls, Precious Moments dolls and others. You are very welcome to add to this display. All items would be put on a contract and you are welcome to withdraw them at anytime.

This is an update on a 1951 Ryder graduate named Raymond Stultz. He and wife, Sherry, are still living in Rancho Cordova, CA.
He is still working 4 days a week at the age of 83 in the barber shop he has owned for 54 years. Sherry says Raymond wishes to greet all of you back in ND that still remember him.

Olive Erb Boots with her 4 great grandchildren

I have a picture of a  former Ryder High grad named Olive Erb. She is now living at Somerset in Minot, ND under the name of Olive Boots. In the photo, you see her with her 4 great-grandchildren that stopped to visit.

Lyla Kraft’s kids Joe, Herb and Denise

Since David Kraft's death, his wife, Lyla, has spent lots of time at her home farm near Kenmare. She has a trailer house there and has the 3 children up there working on a deck for her. It may have been some time since you have seen Joe, Denise and Herbie. In the photo they are at Kenmare helping their mom.

9 year old Youth Cal Ripkin Minot All Stars

I also have a photo of the 9 year old Youth Cal Ripkin Minot All Stars. They won the state tourney at Minot and  headed to Baxter, MN to play in the Regionals. They won this by beating teams from Williston, Bismarck, Dickinson, Mandan, and Fargo.
I am writing about them as 4 of the players and 1 of the coaches are related to Ron and Muriel Peterson of Ryder. Carson Deaver is the son of Steve and Rondi Peterson Deaver; and is their grandson. In the picture he is the only boy with sunglasses and/or last player on the right side in back row! Just an example of some more of that good blood and genes coming from the Ryder area! The kids took 3rd place in the Regionals. Some of the grandparents were spectators at the games and of course knew each other but 4 of the little boys playing found out that they were related and the coach, T.J. Stewart is also related to the Peterson’s (his grandma is Ron Peterson’s cousin). I guess it is a small world after all!

Calvary Church had their first ever Tent Meeting, July 25-27! It was a great time with special music every night. These special meetings were well attended with around sixty people that came each night from around the area. Guest minister was Billy Miller. He shared God's love and prayer for healing that brought much encouragement and blessing for those who attended!

I took in a whole bunch of rummage sales on Friday and Saturday. It seems like I am always buying “stuff” for those grandkids. I didn’t see anything I couldn’t live without but I did buy two bikes, one for each grandkid.

Up Coming Events:

Worship services at at Hope Lutheran Church of Makoti at  9 a.m.

Aug. 28. Benefit Breakfast for Tim Ouradnik at Makoti Sr. Center from 8-1

It looks like this is the end of the news for this week. Watch out for the farmers moving their combines, trucks and all the other farm equipment and now we also have to keep our eyes peeled for the moose and deer that have been scared up from their hiding places due to the harvest!
