News for June 9, 2016
I wonder
where all the people were this weekend. There were very few at bingo Friday
night and hardly anyone in town for the city wide rummage sales on Saturday.
Where ever they were, I hope they send me some news as to their where abouts
and what they were up to.
The Makoti Swimming Pool opened on June 5th.
The hours are Sunday 1-5 and Monday thru Saturday 1-5 and 7-9. Pool passes are
$50 per person for the summer.
Wanda Bjordahl says she owes a huge debt of
gratitude to Terry, Kathy, Calvin and Russell Hovde; Ernie Raszler and Greg,
Brenda and Lucas Brown for their successful efforts recently in containing the
fire at the Bjordahl farm site until the Ryder-Makoti Fire Department arrived.
How fortunate
it was that Terry Hovde noticed the fire upon his returning home that night
shortly after the fire must have started. The Bjordahl family will be forever
grateful for their help and for always being such wonderful neighbors. It is
also acknowledged that the local fire department is fortunate to have such great
and capable on-call local volunteers involved and who no doubt saved the farm
buildings and perhaps the surrounding community from what could have been a
really bad situation. You are all to be commended. Wanda says she appreciates
all that helped and were involved.
The 114th Annual Hiddenwood Old Settlers Picnic will
be held on Sunday, June 19, 2016 at the Hiddenwood Picnic Grounds 8 miles south
of Makoti on County Road #9. There will be an 11:00 All Faith Church Service
with a Pot Luck Lunch following the service. Plates and utensils will be
provided. There will be a program following the Noon Meal featuring Kristine
Shafer. Other talent is also welcome on the stage. Foot races for all ages,
Door Prize drawings all day. After the program the Hiddenwood Ladies Famous
Pies will be for sale.
