Ryder News for April 30, 2020

We had some rain over the weekend, Friday night into the wee hours of Saturday morning. The rain gauge here at the farm showed .30, Carey Larson had .40 and my brother’s rain gauge only showed .10.  There are lots of mud puddles at my place. We sure needed it since it is so dry.

I NEED A HAIRCUT!!! My hair dresser is saying that she may be able to open her doors in the very near future..I sure hope so as I am starting to look like a sheep dog!

The McGraths decided to take their boat out and go fishing on Monday. They were out for quite a while but didn’t catch anything. But at least it was a fun day for the 3 of them and they were able to get out of the house for awhile. I get out by going to the post office to get my mail, taking the dogs for walks and cleaning up the dog yard! I did manage to get out of Ryder once this month to get groceries.

I was cleaning out some old letters and cards and came upon a Christmas letter that I had written in 1991. I loved reading it as it brought back so many memories. So… here it is in all its glory.
“Seasons Greetings Everyone. Can you believe it, 1991 is almost history. Time sure goes by fast when you are getting older, which I’m not!!
Kenny is still working at the elevator, farming and raising cattle. He also helps Dick and me with our farming operation, so he is a pretty busy guy. He is even busier right after Thanksgiving, cause that’s when he drags out the old ladder, goes into the bowels of the attic and retrieves our Xmas lights. If any of you have seen the movie ‘Christmas Vacation’ starring Chevy Chase, Kenny is another Clark Griswold!! He does love his lights! He has a few new things to put up this year, a snowman and a nativity set as well as the old stuff of candles, santa and and all the lights. He decorates the south and east sides of the house, the north and east sides of the trailer addition, the deck and the garage. We did discuss decorating the quonset but decided that was going a bit far. We can hardly wait til the evergreens are bigger.
The Larson side of Kenny’s family had a big reunion this summer and it was fun getting to meet new people plus I got to meet someone that I had been writing to every Christmas since Kenny and I were married but never met. Debbie Janz and she is a really nice person, but I already knew that!
Hallelujah, Rick again has a job!! I turned cartwheels and darn near killed myself and Kenny walked around with a big old grin on his face for a week until we found out that Rick was going to live at home and drive to Minot every day! Anyway he works up north of Minot at this place that details used cars for the car dealers in the Minot area. I don’t know how much cleaning he actually does as every time I call him, he is out delivering cars. His boss must really trust his driving, personally it gives me nightmares. Rick will be 20 on his birthday which is New Years Eve.. of course I was 12 when I had him.
Staci is a 2nd grader this year and doing real well. She is almost smarter than her teacher, takes after her mother of course. She has started taking piano lessons and really likes them. She wished upon a star sometime in October and she says her wish came true. I wondered where and how we had gotten that darn kitten!!
Well, I guess I have brought everyone up to date on the doings of this part of the Bradley family so will sign off until next year about this time.”
