Easter Egg Hunt in Ryder Park. “Oh boy, look at all the
eggs!”
|
It turned out to be a pretty nice morning for the Easter Egg
Hunt in the Ryder Park. The temperature wasn’t terribly cold and very little
wind unlike what was to come in the afternoon. The temperature dropped and the
wind really picked up. We got .20 of an inch of rain and there was some hail
mixed in with that.
Kenny and I spent Easter Sunday with John and Staci and
Johnny McGrath. I rode along to the airport with Staci when she went to pick
John up. He had been to Ohio to his grandmother’s funeral and got home just in
time for dinner. She had fixed a delicious meal and we all ate until we were
stuffed!
Ron and Muriel Peterson spent Easter Sunday with Rondi and
Steve Deaver and kids. Judy Deaver and Kelly Deaver were also there.
Ron and Muriel also visited with her aunt Carmie Streeper
who is at Trinity Nursing Home recovering from hip surgery and open heart
surgery.
Those celebrating Easter at the Curt and Nicole Peterson
home in Bismarck were their children Kiera, Savaya, and Kaylee Peterson; Tom
and Jude Burau and Haylee of Bismarck; Brad and Sara Schmidt with Chaskee and
Piper of St. Anthony; Stuart Schmidt and Kayla of Mandan; Lance and Sammi
Cleland, Bruce and Deb Peterson of Ryder and George and Jeanice Officer of
Minot.
Most of us in our area received the Prairie Partners Outlook
magazine last week. It was nice to see a
picture and article of one of our local Ryder couples. Trent and LyNelle
Sherven were nominated to take part in the CHS New Leaders Forum. The Shervens
started farming in 2007 in the Ryder area. They grow mainly durum, sunflowers,
soybeans and spring wheat. Trent has been on the CHS SunPrairie board of
directors since 2014 also on the Ryder township board.
The Ryder Community Club served for the Verendrye Electric
Caucus meeting held at the Ryder Center on Wed. April 14. Howard (Bucky)
Anderson of Rice Lake was nominated to represent the Ryder area.
Bits of Blue Hill News from 1950-1952
Blue Hill used to be a very active community located south
of Ryder. Here are some newspaper clippings from the early 1950’s that center
on that area. Hope you enjoy the recall of names and events. These are being
taken from an old scrapbook given to the Ryder museum and some dates are not
included. So, there may be some mistakes in the dates for which we apologize
but cannot correct. You may notice that events or names are repeated several
weeks in a row. I am not sure if Mamie forgot what she had written the week
before or just felt it was important enough to repeat. Also, you will notice comments
or questions in some areas. If you can answer these or supply additional
information, let Faye Karna know.
May 1, 1950 Blue Hill News by Mamie Olson
Saturday, April 22, everyone really thought spring had come to stay with a perfect warm day. Sunday morning a shower of rain had fell and light showers fell intermittently all day, when about 9 o’clock a heavy rain started and about 11 o’clock it turned to snow and what a snow we did get. Minot reported 16 inches of snow. Anyway we did get a lot and with the strong east to north easterly wind, it really made drifts again. The REA went off about 5 o’clock Monday morning and we had no current until shortly after midnight Wednesday morning. No telephone communication as many telephone poles were broken and down. Two miles south from Ryder, over thirty poles are laying down. The situation is much the same or worse in other places. The linemen out of Ryder started work on Thursday to reset poles and straighten out the tangled mess. No school at Blue Hill on Monday. Since Monday the weather has been cloudy and a bit chilly until Thursday when quite a lot of the snow melted.Harry Peterson, Don and Carl Boe went to the John Slobojan ranch near Blackwater Saturday to help Slobojan dehorn and vaccinate cattle. Many Blue Hill folks went to Ryder Saturday where last rites for Fred Bussmann were held at the Presbyterian Church.Mr. and Mrs. Chet Braasch and Billy of Roseglen and Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Sorenson, Karen and Kathy of Minot visited at Harry Peterson’s on Sunday.Mr. and Mrs. William Linnertz and family, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Plasiance and family and Cora Plasiance, all of Minot, were Sunday visitors at the John Linnertz home. Cora Plasiance remained and spent the week until Friday at the Linnertz home.
