Happy Easter everyone!!!

April 13th--Maundy Thursday Service with Communion at Calvary Church of Ryder at 7 p.m. April 16--Easter Sunday Service 10:30 a.m. (no Sunday School on Easter).

April 13:  Maundy Thursday Service at St. John’s Lutheran Church of Ryder at 7 p.m.

Don’t forget Ryder’s annual Easter Egg Hunt in the Ryder park on Saturday, April 15 starting at 10:30 a.m.  Kids crafts to follow at 11 a.m. at the Ryder Community Center/Gym.  Ages 0-3, 4-6 and 7-11.

Hey, the weather has been so nice in the Ryder area that we have folks drying their clothes on the line. Who does that anymore?? Guess we still have those in the Ryder area that love the freshness-of-the-outdoors smell!

Denise Johnson’s ice cream birthday cake.

Those senior citizens that haven’t joined Ryder’s Senior Citizens club don’t know what they are missing. We had our monthly meeting on Monday, April 3rd at 6 p.m.  It started off with a delicious meal of pork chops, tater tots, green beans and several desserts plus juice and coffee. Then there was a short meeting and finally the fun began. It was Denise Johnson’s birthday on April 1st so she was presented with a gift and an ice cream cake which she shared with the rest of us! Our next meeting is May 1st at 6 p.m. so all you area seniors think about coming and checking out the club and hopefully joining us.

The men dishing it up at St. John’s Palm Sunday dinner.

Ryder’s St. John’s Lutheran Church men put on a delicious meal for Palm Sunday...roast beef and all the trimmings. The tables in the church dining room were full to capacity with everyone enjoying their meal.

A full dining room at St. John’s Palm Sunday dinner.
We lost another Ryder alumni. Elsie Roen Benson died on April 2 at Garrison. Elsie graduated from Ryder High in 1947. She is survived by her and Boyd’s one and only daughter, Linda.

We have a gentleman from Crosby who is looking for information regarding a lady named Katrina Vikon or Viken. She died in the Ryder area in April of 1910.  They are updating cemetery records. If you know any information, please contact Faye Karna. She has checked the Ryder museum records and did not locate that name.

I received a very nice letter from Elinor West of Woodburn, OR. She has this to say,
“Dear Sue, Again, thanks for the Ryder News. You are doing a wonderful job writing the news and doing your radiation treatments. It is so appreciated by us old Ryder pioneers.
I don’t remember those people living in your house on Daily Street, I guess I go back even farther. I remember it as the Hanchett house. I spent many happy hours of fun playing there with Nona Hanchett there. Alma and Gust Meyer who were my Godparents lived next door on the south side.
Also enjoyed seeing the picture of Stan Hjelmstad and his lovely wife. I remember him as several years younger than I, about my brother George’s age.
They must have enclosed the porch on your house as I don’t remember all those windows. Nona and I played hopscotch on the front sidewalk.
Thanks again for the memories.
Love and prayers,
Elinor West Kronback 91 ½ years.”
