Ryder News Oct. 15, 2015

Ryder News for Oct. 15, 2015
We had a terrific wind storm with winds gusting to 60 mph starting late Sunday morning and lasting into Monday afternoon. I thought our house was going to blow away! I sure am glad that it wasn’t snowing!! So far I haven’t heard about or seen any damages from the wind in our surrounding area but I probably won’t find out until later in the week when the news comes pouring in! I do know that the Staci and John McGrath’s of Minot had parts of their back yard fence blown over.

Saturday, Oct. 10th was Kenny’s birthday so we made our semi-annual trek to Minot to one of our favorite eating places so he could have his birthday meal with a $15 discount. He had a New York strip steak and of course I had ribs like I always do! This is a semi-annual trek as we go to the same place on my birthday too. I thought it would be neat if my brother, his wife, Johnny and I all went together for our Jan. 12th birthdays. The restaurant would probably freak out!
After eating our favorite meals in Minot that day, we hurried home to take in the Pork Roast festivities at the Ryder Community Center put on by the Senior Citizens.

Over 100 people attended and enjoyed a meal of pork roast on a giant bun, scalloped potatoes, coleslaw and a variety of bars for dessert. The free will offering will be used to help replace the carpeting on the Senior Center floor.
David Kimball, Gary Hagen and Denise Johnson were the main cooks. The food was prepared at the Sr. Center and then transported to the Community Center. Some others that helped with serving and other tasks were: Pastor Galloway, Ronnie and Muriel Peterson, Harvey Johnson, Dick and Debbie Ludwig and Kathy Kimball. Sorry if I missed anyone that volunteered to help with the serving and cleaning up.       The DJ for the event was my nephew, David Ludwig and he kept a variety of music playing softly in the background.

Houses are disappearing in the Ryder area. Age and weather without upkeep develops the need to have them demolished. Rod and Kathy (Kronbach) Kallestad have been busy tearing down the old Kronbach house located north of Ryder along highway 28. And, another house that disappeared this past week was the Clarence and Gladys (Underdahl) Haugen house northeast of Ryder. Many of their neighbors drank coffee in Gladys’ kitchen including several generations of the Martin Hansen’s, Clarence Guttormson’s, Leo Karna’s, Art Johnson’s, and Clarence Endresen’s. Clarence and Gladys’ children were Dorie, Robert (Bob), Richard, Donna (Red), and Roger (Buck).

Upcoming events:
Oct. 18: Fifth Annual Burger Bash after the 10:30 worship service at Ryder Calvary Church. The Church will supply the burgers and hotdogs with fixings as usual and we ask for you to bring salads or desserts to share. Sunday school will start the following week on October 25th at 9:30 a.m. There will be classes for preschool on up to the adults.

Nov. 4: Flu shots at Ryder Senior Center 8:30-9:30 a.m.

Nov. 4: Flu shots at Makoti North Shore High School 1:30-2:30 p.m.

It looks like this is all the news that I could find for this week. Check back next week to see if I mentioned you in the news. Have a great week and if you had any wind storm damage, let me know and if you can take pictures of the damage send them to me!
