   On Saturday, May 16th, Bill Franklin, Marvin and Cheryl Franklin Luella Schenfisch, Corlene Olson, Florence Dahl and Jerry and Sharon Franklin drove to Glendive, MT to surprise brother, Harry for his 80th birthday. His wife, Rosella, and their three daughters, Debbie, Sherry and Vicki had a nice meal prepared and a great birthday cake for dessert. The girl’s husbands and grandkids were there as well, so everyone had a wonderful time visiting and taking pictures. Other siblings of Harry are Sue Ellen Boehm from Eugene, OR and Clifford Franklin from Lakewood, CO. Brothers Thomas and Richard are deceased. Harry’s address is 913 Cooke Street, Glendive, MT 59330 for those who would like to send him a card for his 80th birthday.

   Congratulations to Jade and Brittany Larson on the birth of their son, Corbin Reno. Corbin was born on May 8th, weighing 6 lbs. 14 oz., and was 19.75 inches long.  Maternal grandparents are Neal and Cherlyn Biwer of Stanley, and Galen and Lynell Larson of Ryder. Great-grandparents are Derald and Beverly Larson of Minot.

   The board of the Ryder Historical Society will host a 'construction open-house' at 1 p.m. Sunday, May 24th for those who are interested in seeing how the renovation is going. The Historical Society is looking for people who would be interested in serving on the board or helping with the renovation. The Museum will be open to the general public after the Memorial Day program on May 25th.

   May 22nd---Last day of school with dismissal at 10:00 a.m.

   May 23rd---Makoti High School Graduation 3 p.m. @ Makoti High School

   May 25th---Memorial Day Program in the Ryder Gym 10:00 a.m. Lunch served at         Ryder Star.

   May 25--- The Makoti American Legion Post 230 will hold Memorial Day services at the Makoti park at 11:00 a.m.. The Auxiliary will serve a ham dinner in the hall after the service. Everyone is welcome to attend.

   June 6th---City Wide Rummage Sale in Ryder, 8:00-3:00. There will be spaces at the Ryder Gym for rent. $10 per table with 3 tables maximum. You must be registered by May 23rd. Call Deb Peterson 758-2518 or Barbara Miles 520-518-1818.

   July 6, 7, 8---Vacation Bible School Monday-Wednesday at Calvary Presbyterian Church in Ryder. This is for all kids who are Kindergarten on up to those who have just completed 6th grade. 9:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Bring a sack lunch.

   Lexophile" is a word used to describe those that have a love for words, such as "you can tune a piano, but you can't tuna fish", or "to write with a broken pencil is pointless."  I will be putting a few of these in at the end of my column each week so you can enjoy them too and to get us started, here is the first one. --- A thief who stole a calendar got twelve months.
