Shawna Schenfisch of Makoti, ND with her 106 lb. Paddlefish
Shawna Schenfisch said, “They say good things come to those that wait...Guess the 4th time was mine! Whopper Club! 106 lbs.!” They go paddlefishing at the confluence…where the Missouri and Yellowstone rivers meet, and her hubby Rick keeping up the big hog tradition with a 96 lb. one this year!
People come from near and far to try their hand at snagging a paddlefish as the season starts May 1st and goes until 1,000 paddlefish are caught. The season alternates between catch and keep days and catch and release days. The eggs from the paddlefish are harvested and sold as Northstar Caviar with 25% (about $350,000) of the proceeds going to support research and management of the paddlefish.
