Ryder News for March 5, 2020

I guess that Mystery Photo from last week was just too easy as I received lots of answers and they all correctly identified Danny Hoffer as the Mystery Person. These were the clothes that he wore to his daughter Katie’s wedding. He cleans up pretty nice. Ha Ha Danny, just have to tease you a little! Hank and Almira Hoffer were his parents.

Arthur Miller
The city of Ryder lost one of their residents this last week. Arthur R. Miller, 43, Ryder, ND, passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2020 from injuries sustained in an accident in his garage. The Funeral Services were held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday March 4th at the Plaza Hall. The doors opened at 10 a.m. so people could stop in and sign the guest book. Our sympathy goes out to his family and friends.

Well, I suppose it had to come...I’m speaking of Daylight Savings Time! It starts on March 8th and we lose an hour of sleep. Remember it’s spring forward, fall back. I guess I’ll be crabbier that usual for awhile until I get used to it!

Well, since March came in like a lamb..I wonder what it will go out like! The old saying is, “In like a lamb, out like a lion”, or "In like a lion, out like a lamb". It kinda scares me with all the different kinds of weather we have been having, cold for a few days and then nice and warm and then cold again. Then the Ides of March are coming up and so are the basketball tournaments and it seems that we always get a real good snowstorm along about that time!

The North Dakota Community Foundation hosted it’s 53rd Annual North Dakota Picnic on March 1st at Mesa’s Red Mountain Park. This picnic is a gathering of anyone with North Dakota ties who either lives part time or permanently in Arizona and features polka and oldies music, vendor booths and a classic car display. Last year’s picnic drew about 2,000 people. There are quite a few snow birds from our area that attend this picnic and I am hoping to get the names of some who attended so I can share it in next week’s column.

There will be bingo at the Ryder Community Gym on Friday, March 6th starting at 7 p.m.
