Ryder News Oct 3, 2019

Ryder News for Oct. 3, 2019

What lousy weather they had for the Makoti Threshing Show on Saturday with wind, rain and cold weather. Sorry to say, but the Threshing Show scheduled for Sunday was canceled due to the large amounts of rain Saturday night. The threshing ground was swamped. Now it is Monday when I’m writing this and it is STILL raining! Ugh...at least it isn’t snow like they had in Montana! My rain gauge is showing 1.20 inches for the 3 1/2 day total and I’m hearing that the total rainfall varies from my 1.20 to 2.40. No matter what the total is, it is too much. I think most of us have yards that look like swamps. I guess the ducks and geese are happy and I even saw a frog or two!!

Kirby Jean DesRoches Baptism
Kirby Jean DesRoches was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church on Saturday evening by Pastor John who held her during Baptism and took her all around the Congregation to show their newest member to everyone while Kirby slept through the whole event. Her proud parents are Alex and Kelsey and Big Sister Kallie Jo, grandparents are Jody and Peggy Reinisch and Lorn and Corrina DesRoches.  Everyone enjoyed supper and cake at Kirby’s home afterwards.

Gus Mueller and Steve Morris, guest speakers at Louisiana Academy of Audiology meeting.
Coincidentally, born and raised Ryderites Gus Mueller and Steve Morris were both invited guest speakers at the recent meeting of the Louisiana Academy of Audiology in New Orleans. Their workshops were held on the day of an NDSU Bison football game, and with both being big fans, they sported Bison duds for their talks (albeit somewhat more subtly than usual).  At the opening ceremony of the event, Steve was awarded the Honors of the Association for his support, promotion and mentoring of audiology in Louisiana for the past 35 years.  Keeping the boys out of trouble on Bourbon Street was Marge Gurholt (Mrs Morris), also a Ryderite.

See You At The Pole event at Max Public School
Student-led " See You At The Pole" is a Prayer for our school, our friends, our teachers/staff, our government, and our nation.  It took place at the flagpole at Max Public School on Wednesday at 7:30 a.m. with about 30 attending. Students, teachers, staff and families were welcome to attend. It was led by Max Senior Camden Johnson. Refreshments were served afterward (caramel rolls & hot cocoa) made by the Johnson family.

Ellie Richmond
I just received word that Ellie Richmond has passed away.  Ellie's obituary is on the Shelley funeral home website in Harding, Minnesota. Ellie and her husband, Ken (now deceased) lived in the former Roger Otteson house for nine years before she moved to live with her daughter in Harding, Minnesota.
