Ryder's annual Memorial Day Service was held in the Ryder Gym with Pastor Jonathan Starks giving the Invocation. With Daniel Starks playing guitar and Andrew Hagen on the keyboard the audience sang along while they played the Star Spangled Banner. Daniel Starks also played the Armed Forces Medley. The speaker was Major James C. O'Neill. He is a medic with the Minot Air Force Base. He spoke of his time serving as a medic in Iraq and Afghanistan and told of how even the wounded soldiers wanted to go back to their unit and continue fighting. He spoke of saving lives and of the ones who didn't make it and how their sacrifices impacted him. He told of one soldier that had the bone in his right arm shattered and how they put it back together. This brave young man wanted a pass from the Dr. so he could go back to his unit to continue fighting as he said he could still pull the trigger on a gun with his other hand! After the guest speaker, Daniel Starks sang God Bless the USA and Pastor Jonathan Starks sang God Bless America. There were special presentations made to Marvin Hagen, David Olson and Daryl Simmons for 50 years of membership in the Legion. The Benediction was said and the Colors Retired. Then we all proceeded to the Memorial Wall in the Ryder Park where military honors were performed with the 21 gun salute and with Sue Mahoney-Weber placing flowers in front of the wall to honor our veterans.

I guess the rules for Rosehill Cemetery were inadvertently left out of the news last week, so here they are again!!
Rosehill Cemetery Guidelines:
- Special Holiday decorations may be placed one week prior to and removed one week following the holiday.
- Flowers and all ornamentals (solar lights, pinwheels, etc…) must be placed in a vase secured to the headstone or cement pad.
- Military markers must be placed next to headstone.
- Planting of trees, shrubs or flowers is prohibited.
- No rock or loose landscaping materials can be placed around markers or monuments.
- Sealed vaults are recommended. Internments must be contained in a casket or urn.
- Cemetery Board reserves the right to remove items deteriorating or unsightly.
- The Cemetery assumes no responsibility or liability for items placed in the cemetery.
- For any questions, please call a member of the Cemetery Board.
Mothers Day weekend several of Jim and Doris Zieman's children attended the high school graduation of Hope Smith (daughter of Marcus and Melanie (Zieman) Smith) of Maryville, TN; Jim and Cindy (Zieman) Burckhard of Towner; David and Valerie (Zieman) Johnson of Papillion, NE; Blake and Rachelle Zieman of Redmond, WA; Ryan Zieman of Makoti; Randy and Virpi Zieman with children Ella and Emmi of Edgewood, Wa.
While there, some of the siblings toured Nashville and the Ryman Auditorium at the Grand Ole Opry. While others took in the sites of Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge and The Great Smoky Mountains. The kids enjoyed watching taffy being made and pulled at the Ole Smoky Candy Kitchen. They had a large window on the outside of the building to look inside at the process.

The Bowen sisters, their spouses and families got together Sunday on May 18th to celebrate the retirement of their sister, aunt and great aunt Joylea Knutson on her 25 plus years of service to Bread of Life Lutheran Church in Minot. Lots of laughs, and memories were shared, hugs given and pictures taken.
On May 19th, Richard Kimball celebrated his birthday! Richard and wife Judy live in Dacono, CO.
They had a family get together at his son Adam's house in Thornton, CO. All four of his children (Chris Kimball, Lorie Young and Daniel Kimball) and their families attended the BBQ!
Grandchildren present were Ethan and Baileah Kimball, children of Adam and Jen Kimball. Lorie's husband Sean Young was also present as well as Joni Rouselle and her son Kaleb (friends of Chris Kimball). Also attending was Janice (Kimball) Bogert of Morrison, CO and her three children: Todd, Michelle and Brett.
Later that evening, he talked with his brother Dave Kimball on the phone!
I received a very nice and informative e-mail from Casey and Stephanie Severance. They said, "Hi Sue, I think it's great that you're back at it with the Ryder news. Stephanie and I are happy to share birth of Lucille Ann Severance on April 15th in Holmfirth, United Kingdom. Lucy joins her brothers Harrison (5) and Fritz (3). She weighed 8 lbs 14 ounces at birth. At her five week check-up, she was up to 11 lbs 9 ounces! She and Stephanie are both healthy and doing well. Grandparents are: Kandis and Tracy Horn of Ryder; Hal and Jeanna Severance of Garrison; Don and Pam Faber of Columbus, Indiana.

Congratulations go out to Dakota Brown, of Ryder. He graduated from Minot State University. He is pictured with his dad Greg and is the son of Brenda Brown of Plaza.
Congratulations goes out to Jayden Hansen, of Ryder, who graduated on May 4th from The University of Minnesota Crookston. Jayden is the son of Jay and Melissa Hansen.
Wednesday visitors at Lorraine Nelsons were Don and Karen Bradley of Minot. They brought supper along out and spent the evening visiting. Thursday afternoon visitors with Lorraine were Jackie Nelson of Bismarck and her daughter, Shanda Nelson (she is also Lorraine's granddaughter). Shanda was here visiting from Berlin, Germany where she is employed. She was leaving on the train from Minot later that evening. Kim Edwards of Plaza also came to visit with her cousin Shanda, Aunt Jackie and Grandma Lorraine.
LeRoy and Sandra Peterson were in Bismarck Friday for kindergarten graduation of Jimmy Munns, son of Kevin and Carolyn Munns. They also visited with Don Morris at Miller Pointe in Mandan. On Saturday, Carolyn, Megan and Jimmy Munns visited at the Peterson farm so the kids could see the newborn animals.
The Ryder Park Board appreciates the donation of new flower containers, flowers and some new decorations for our park that Wanda Bjordahl gave in remembrance of Darrel "Bud" Karna.
Dave and Val Johnson from Omaha, Nebraska were visiting with Jim and Doris Zieman for the weekend. They attended high school graduation in Surrey for a great-nephew.
