Ryder News for June 20, 2019
Hope all the dads, grandpas and stepdads out there in reader land had a great Father’s Day.
No one even ventured a guess as to last week’s mystery photo, but I will admit it was a hard one. Alvin Magandy was the little boy’s name and he is the son of Grace and Don Magandy.
This
week we have a new mystery photo and he lived in the Ryder area, now
deceased. He had 2 children. Who wants to venture a guess as to who he
is?
I am so sick of wood ticks..it
seems that I have one on me at least every other day if not every day.
My dogs all have collars to kill them and I put tick medicine on my cat
but they are still finding me. Maybe I should have a collar on too! It
might be my long-haired
cat that is the guilty wood tick carrier. They probably get on his long
hair and when they see me coming, they leap at me. Ugh!
John,
Staci and Johnny McGrath went fishing last Friday and Johnny caught
this big northern. He was so excited that he could barely talk. Staci
took a video of them bringing it in and after taking a picture, they let
 it go. Congratulations Johnny!
Had some rain showers around our area last week, my rain gauge showed a total of .78 of an inch
for the 3 day period, some got less and some got more along with hail.
No hail at my place though which was good as I had just planted some
flowers and I also had left my car sitting outside!
Ryder
sure has been making the news lately and not in a good way! First it
was the murder/suicide in the Ryder Star bar and on Main St., now there
was a man
killed in SUV/pedestrian accident last Thursday. Ricky Finley, 23, of
Minot was struck and killed on Highway 28, 3 miles south of Ryder. He
was a passenger in a van that was stopped along the shoulder of the
road. When some passengers got out of the van, a dog got loose and
Finley was chasing the dog when he was struck by a southbound car. There
are no charges pending and the driver of the car was not injured. The
accident happened in rainy conditions at about 10:30 p.m.
Parshall
has been having its share of bad luck as well with an ATV accident at
Parshall Bay last week resulting in 2 young men being injured, one
severely with his arm almost detached. He is now in a Minnesota hospital
recovering from his injuries. They were able to save his arm thanks to
the quick thinking of some bystanders who witnessed the accident,
fashioned a tourniquet and called 911.  And to the doctors at Trinity
who performed surgery on his arm to place a stent to keep blood flowing
into the arm. Then he was life flighted to a Minnesota hospital. The
other young man was taken to a different hospital and is recovering from
his non-life threatening injuries. Then I see that there was a motorcycle accident south of Parshall which took the life of 69 year old
Larry Snyder. It looks like the accidents have already started this
time of year for ATV and motorcycles. Everyone needs to be careful and
take care when you are driving one of these vehicles and others need to
keep your eyes open and watch out for them to avoid any more accidents.
Myron Lahti buried his oldest son, Bernard (Bernie) in Ryder’s Rosehill cemetery last Friday afternoon.
Some
of the kids that attended the Max Cossacks Basketball Camp in Max this
last week were: Ethan Hagan, Kendall Janz, Stetson Brandvold, Brianna Liefson, Carson Rockwell, Isaac Sherven and Alivia Sherven.  Everyone received a T-shirt.  There were awards after the 3 day camp, which all these kids brought home one or more. What a fun week was had by all.
Tony
Petersen’s son Cash, who is a young motorcycle rider from Ryder is
heading to the Nationals motorcycle competition in Tennessee at the end
of July. Good luck Cash!
Lydell and Wendy Wohlk’s twin granddaughters, Jaeda and Jetta Wohlk celebrated their 11th birthday this past week. Happy Birthday, girls!
